Friends,
Look who decided to show up in your inbox. It’s us! Your friendly water-cooler colleagues. Hello, old pals!
As you may recall, this newsletter was born in response to the pandemic. Now that we’re moving fully into another phase, we’re asking what to do next.
We decided to perform an audit. We re-read our newsletters, the comments from you and reviewed things like which posts were most popular. Here’s what we learned:
We use this space as a form of processing — a ha! What a surprise! It’s called Unpacking!
A lot of our topics were in response to shared pandemic-era experiences: holidays, re-entering society, responding to loneliness, partner podmates. Sometimes though it was regular-life stuff: meal prep burnout, healthy boundaries, life ambitions. The latter subjects resonated the most.
We are all more engaged when we’re curious about how other people are dealing with similar issues; it’s a reminder that we are not alone in our questions and ideas.
In sum, we asked questions out loud about how to make sense of the pandemic and how to live in it. Then we provided a couple ideas.
We plan to continue the tradition moving forward: A dialogue — water-cooler style — around the question: How do we live in the post-2020 world?
Revisiting our aims, here goes:
We’re keeping with the Friday midday publication time. We want Unpacking to be a part of your cross-fade into the weekend.
We need to write when we have something to say. If we don’t have something to say or discuss, we won’t waste your time.
It’d be *awesome* if you could continue to let us know what’s most relevant and delightful to you.
Here’s another big upshot, though: We’d like to start incorporating your voices into the newsletter. If you’re interested in Unpacking a subject with us (either as a co-author or as an interviewee) please reply to this email. Unpacking is intended to be an experiment, so come experiment with us!
Okay, that’s all for now. We hope that your July Friday feels bright, and we’ll see you in our inboxes next week.
Your pals,
Carrie & Emily
